January 2009 Freeze Fly

Happy New Year to all the MRCA members.
I hope that you all had a nice holiday, ate way too much good food,
and maybe got to spend some time with family and friends you don't
get to see so often.

To start the new year off right I thought I would create a special blog
for the members of the MRCA flying club. Just a little space for a few
words and maybe a few photos. Hopefully we can establish a little
presence here to communicate questions and comments in between
meetings. So If I get this right, feel free to jump in with comments
and let me know what you think.

Well, today was the annual "Freeze Fly" and it sure lived up to that
name as it was certainly cold out at the field. This did not stop the
few brave souls who showed up while I was out at the field. Thanks
to Lew Rolston, Walt Hancock, Don Wilke and Lee Evans for
making a go of it and braving a mighty cold morning to go toss a
bird in the air. Here's the indisputable photographic evidence.

Walt Hancock busy with assembly.

Lew helps out with aileron troubles.

Don Wilke joins the fray.

Don's Foam-Wing Ski-Plane.

Don takes off in 20MPH headwinds!

And she's in the air!

Lee Evans shows off his 29 dollar styro-plane.
It was too windy to fly this one!

We took a vote and decided to repair to the nearest
McD's for hot coffee and free cookies.(thanks Beth!)

Just a quick word before our next meeting.
This will be my first meeting as the new president of the MRCA.
I am extremely honored to take up this position and will try to
act with the same dignity and intelligence as my predecessor.
I would like to put out the call to all members who are planning
to attend the January 5th meeting to bring along a little something
for show and tell. This should be easy enough as I'm sure a few
of us got something new in their Christmas wind-sock.
Take Care and I hope to see you soon.
